TERMS & CONDITIONS
WORKING DRAFT.
For legal review before public launch. These terms are a working commercial draft, not a substitute for advice from a qualified film/media lawyer.
Last updated: 13 September 2026
Until Shoot Me Next is incorporated or transferred into another legal entity, these Terms are between you and Andrew Day trading as Shoot Me Next (“Shoot Me Next”, “SMN”, “we”, “us”, “our”). By using the site or submitting a project, you agree to these Terms.
1. What Shoot Me Next is
Shoot Me Next is a discovery and audience-testing platform for ideas for film, television, documentary and related screen projects. Creators may submit short audiovisual material together with a title, logline, intended audience classification, language and other information about a proposed project. Shoot Me Next may curate, publish, promote and test selected submissions with audiences and may introduce selected projects to potential industry partners. Submission does not guarantee publication, representation, development, financing, commissioning, acquisition or production.
2. You keep your IP
You retain ownership of all intellectual property rights that you own in your submission and underlying project. Submission does not transfer ownership of your screenplay, concept, characters, artwork, footage, music, treatment, pitch materials or other intellectual property to Shoot Me Next. Nothing in these Terms assigns copyright or other ownership rights to Shoot Me Next. Where an underlying idea, concept, theme or premise is not itself protected by law, these Terms do not create rights that would not otherwise exist.
3. Licence to Shoot Me Next
By submitting material, you grant Shoot Me Next a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, store, technically process, display and stream the submission; create technically necessary versions, crops, thumbnails, captions or format conversions; display the project title, logline, intended audience classification, language and creator credit; promote the submission and Shoot Me Next through SMN-owned websites, social channels, presentations, screenings, press materials and promotional activity; and present the submission privately to potential industry partners where reasonably connected with the purpose of Shoot Me Next. This licence does not give Shoot Me Next the right to independently produce, remake, adapt, sequel, merchandise or otherwise exploit your underlying project. Any broader rights require a separate written agreement.
4. No automatic exclusivity
Submission is non-exclusive. You remain free to develop, pitch, finance, produce or exploit your project elsewhere. Shoot Me Next acquires no exclusive representation, shopping or development rights simply because you submit a project. Any exclusivity must be agreed separately in writing, including its scope, duration and termination provisions.
5. Withdrawal
You may request that your submission be removed from public display. Removal is prospective and does not require Shoot Me Next to erase legitimate internal, audit, legal or historical promotional records. Removal does not affect rights or obligations arising from an introduction, negotiation or transaction already commenced through Shoot Me Next.
6. Industry introductions
Shoot Me Next may introduce a creator or project to producers, studios, commissioners, broadcasters, streaming platforms, distributors, financiers, talent or other industry participants. Where serious commercial interest develops, Shoot Me Next may require the relevant parties to enter into a separate project-specific introduction, origination, representation, shopping, development or producer agreement before further material or contact details are exchanged.
7. Success / origination fee
Submission and viewing are free. Shoot Me Next earns money when its activity materially contributes to a project being commissioned, financed, acquired or produced. Where a qualifying transaction arises directly from a Shoot Me Next introduction, discovery or material involvement, Shoot Me Next intends to charge a 2% success/origination fee unless a different fee is agreed in writing. The intended commercial basis is 2% of the final approved production budget of the resulting production. The party responsible for paying that fee, the payment date, accounting mechanism and precise definition of production budget will be confirmed in a separate written transaction agreement. Merely submitting a project does not make the creator personally liable for 2% of a production budget.
8. No success, no success fee
No success fee becomes payable merely because a project is submitted, selected, receives audience interest, is introduced to an industry participant, secures a meeting or receives an expression of interest. The model is intended to reward successful origination, not unsuccessful pitching. Any treatment of option, development or acquisition fees will be agreed separately where relevant.
9. Anti-circumvention
Creators must not deliberately bypass Shoot Me Next in order to avoid an agreed success fee where Shoot Me Next introduced the relevant commercial opportunity. Equally, Shoot Me Next will not claim a fee merely because a project appeared on the platform where the creator can reasonably demonstrate that the relevant transaction arose independently and without material involvement by Shoot Me Next. A project-specific agreement may provide for a reasonable protection period following a direct introduction, anticipated to be approximately 24 months.
10. Your warranties
By submitting material, you confirm that you are entitled to submit it; you own the material or have all necessary permissions and licences; your submission does not knowingly infringe third-party rights; music, footage, performances, artwork, photographs, archive material and other third-party material have been properly cleared for the use you are making of them; collaborators with ownership interests have authorised the submission; and information you provide about authorship and ownership is materially accurate.
11. AI-generated or AI-assisted material
AI-generated or AI-assisted material may be submitted where permitted by Shoot Me Next. Creators remain responsible for ensuring that they are lawfully entitled to submit and publicly display that material. Shoot Me Next may require disclosure of significant generative-AI use and may identify AI-assisted material where appropriate. Do not submit material designed to unlawfully impersonate a real person, reproduce protected material without permission, mislead viewers about provenance, or violate another person’s rights.
12. Children and minors
A person submitting a project must be at least 18 years old unless Shoot Me Next expressly introduces a separate process for younger creators with appropriate parental or guardian consent. If minors appear in submitted audiovisual material, the submitter must have obtained all legally required permissions and safeguarding consents.
13. Intended audience classification
Any classification displayed on Shoot Me Next is the creator’s intended audience classification only. It is not an official BBFC classification or certification. Shoot Me Next may edit or remove an intended classification where it is clearly inconsistent with the submitted material.
14. Curation
Shoot Me Next is curated and is not obliged to publish any submission. We may reject, remove, suspend, reposition or cease displaying a project where reasonably necessary for editorial, legal, safety, technical or reputational reasons. Where practical, we will not materially alter the creative content of a selected project without the creator’s permission.
15. Audience responses
Audience responses such as “I’D WATCH THIS” and “NOT FOR ME” are indicative only. Shoot Me Next does not warrant that votes represent future ticket purchases, subscriptions, commissioning decisions or commercial performance. We may disregard, quarantine, reweight or remove activity that appears automated, manipulated, duplicated, fraudulent or otherwise unreliable.
16. No confidentiality
Shoot Me Next is a public discovery platform. Unless expressly agreed otherwise in writing, submissions are not confidential. Creators should not submit confidential trade secrets or information they are not prepared to have publicly disclosed. Receipt of a submission does not create a confidential, fiduciary, agency or advisory relationship.
17. Similar ideas
Film and television development frequently produces independently created projects with overlapping themes, premises, genres or concepts. Other creators, users or industry partners may already be developing, or may later develop, material that is similar in theme, subject matter, setting, character type or premise. Nothing in these Terms permits copying protected expression; similarity of an unprotected idea alone does not establish copying or liability.
18. Copyright and takedown
Shoot Me Next respects intellectual property rights. If you believe material displayed on Shoot Me Next infringes rights you own or control, contact shootmenext@shootmenext.com with sufficient information to identify the material, the rights allegedly infringed, your relationship to those rights, and the basis of the complaint. Shoot Me Next may suspend or remove material while a dispute is investigated.
19. Prohibited material
Shoot Me Next may reject or remove material that is unlawful, infringing, defamatory, fraudulent, deliberately deceptive, threatening, exploitative, hateful, sexually exploitative or otherwise unsuitable for the platform. This does not prevent legitimate fictional depictions of difficult, violent, sexual, political or controversial subject matter appropriate to film and television development.
20. No investment service
Shoot Me Next is currently a creative discovery and project-introduction platform. Unless expressly stated otherwise, Shoot Me Next does not provide investment advice, arrange regulated investments, operate a crowdfunding platform or invite members of the public to purchase securities. Any future investment or film-finance functionality will be subject to separate terms and applicable regulatory requirements.
21. No guarantee
Shoot Me Next does not guarantee that a submission will be selected; an audience will respond positively; an industry participant will view it; a meeting will occur; a project will be commissioned or financed; or a production will ultimately be made or commercially successful.
22. Liability
Nothing in these Terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded. Subject to that, Shoot Me Next will not be responsible for indirect or consequential losses arising simply because a project is rejected, receives poor audience feedback, fails to secure financing or does not proceed into production. This provision is expressly subject to legal review before public launch.
23. Termination
Shoot Me Next may suspend access or terminate an account where a user materially breaches these Terms, infringes rights, manipulates audience activity, acts fraudulently or creates a material legal or security risk. Termination does not extinguish rights or obligations already arising from a valid introduction or transaction.
24. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. The version in force when a submission is made will govern that submission unless the creator later expressly agrees to revised terms. Material changes to ownership, licensing or success-fee provisions should not be imposed retrospectively without consent.
25. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. The courts of England and Wales will have jurisdiction, subject to any mandatory consumer protections that apply.
